Summer Food Changeover

Summer Food Changeover

Have you noticed how your body naturally tends to crave comfort foods in the winter and lighter foods in the summer?

During summer, your body temperature will slightly increase, with the external heat and longer hours of daylight.

As usual, always follow your instincts when it comes to nourishment, and seasonal changes are a great example of when this needs to happen.  So here is what I would recommend as we get closer to the summer:

  • Listen to your body and assess if it absolutely needs breakfast. This may be a good time to experiment with intermittent fasting (IF) Read more about IF here.  Caution! Women need to follow different IF schedules than men, whether still menstruating or not. Menstruating? no fasting the week before your period. All ladies: alternate IF days with ‘normal’ breakfast days, randomly through the month.  Always listen to and don’t ignore your hunger levels.
  • Swap cooked produce and food with more lightly cooked/steamed and raw fruit and vegetables.  This is the time of year when your digestive system should be strong enough to eat raw foods, as opposed to the middle of winter when it’s less capable of that.
  • Rainbow eating! This season is ripe with colourful produce, so don’t hold back on filling at least half of your plate with colour.  These are naturally rich in antioxidants and fibre, so your immune system and guts will thrive.

Have an energised, light beautiful Summer! ☀️
