Start the year on a HIGH note
Done writing your new year’s resolutions yet? Or is your number 1 resolution NOT to have any?
You may have realised that resolutions highlight a negative aspect of yourself and give you a sense of failure or lack – due to your own ‘record’ of not achieving past goals.
What about if instead of highlighting what you haven’t achieved – you started from a place of appreciation and gratitude for who you are?
In fact, research shows that focusing on appreciation of oneself raises levels of wellbeing, happiness and productivity.
However above and beyond self-appreciation and gratitude – acknowledgement of others boosts levels of wellbeing and happiness far more.
Imagine someone giving you a card to tell how they appreciate you. You will not only feel elated about this, but the person doing the offering will also ‘feed’ off that good feeling.
So how about setting resolutions this year that will make you feel better about yourself, and increase your self-worth and happiness – and someone else’s?
Ready for a challenge?
- Write a card or letter to 3 people in your life that you really appreciate (don’t fake it) ie: the post woman for being reliable or your son for being kind or your best friend for being loyal.
- Acknowledge 3 people face to face or on the phone – people you feel you should have acknowledged long ago (it’s never too late).
- Become an expert at saying to anyone what you appreciate about them – daily.
Imagine a world where people appreciate others and themselves more? We can start creating it right now.
